Manufacturer adds to large portfolio of patents for processes to grow
diamonds
GREENVILLE, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Scio
Diamond Technology Corporation (OTCBB: SCIO), which produces
lab-grown diamonds, has received its 28th
US patent for its unique process to grow diamonds that are
chemically, physically and optically identical to mined diamonds.
The newest patent is for Gemstone Production from Chemical Vapor
Deposition (CVD) Diamond Plate and was granted on January 5, 2016.
“This is the latest addition to our extensive patent portfolio, which
ensures broad intellectual property protection for our industry-leading
diamond manufacturing processes,” explained Gerald McGuire, CEO, Scio
Diamond. “Our exclusive processes allow us to grow brilliant, beautiful
diamonds that are identical to mined diamonds that grew beneath the
earth for centuries.”
“Our proprietary CVD process allows us to produce stunning diamonds in
color and size combinations that are seldom found in mines, such as
fancy color pink diamonds that are prized for fine jewelry,” McGuire
continued.
The company’s technology delivered the first CVD single-crystal diamond
plates, CVD-grown diamond gems and one-inch square single-crystal
diamond wafers.
Besides innovating the processes to grow single-crystal diamonds using
the CVD process, the Scio Diamond technology established the
relationship between impurities and color in gemstones, produced
computer code enabling automated diamond manufacturing and established
quality protocols for diamond growth.
Scio Diamond’s patents also facilitate the company’s future
opportunities to produce diamond material for potential industrial
applications, such as semiconductors, water treatment and purification,
high-voltage power switching, lasers, quantum computing and
communications, wear resistant coatings and others as they are developed.
The manufacturer conducts significant research and development to
advance the science of lab-grown diamonds; all of its processes are
patented. Starting with tiny diamond seeds, Scio Diamond applies a unique,
proprietary combination of chemistry, engineering and manufacturing
discipline to grow diamonds in the three to five carat size. The company
has developed a scalable manufacturing platform so it can produce large
numbers of identical gems, which is important in jewelry,
where consumers want matched stones and for industrial
applications, where consistency is required.
